South Korea to call the European Union to bring down the barriers on steel import

The Korea Herald newspaper reported that the South Korean government would call for the withdrawal of EU trade barriers to some South Korean products during negotiations with the European Union (EU) due to South Korea's trade deficit with the EU remains high.

Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee, on behalf of South Korea,  and Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom, on behalf of the EU, will attend the 8th meeting of the South Korean-EU free trade agreement in Seoul.

The South Korean side plans to call for improvement of EU export conditions for Korean companies operating in sectors such as steel, automotive, pharmaceutical, etc. during the meeting.

Regarding the automotive sector, will be asked the EU approval process to be shortened for the Korean automotive manufacturers. In terms of steel, the Korean side will demand the expansion of EU quotas that applied in the scope of recent protection measure on the EU's steel imports.
