Sinan Topuk : “We dream and work toward innovative products.”

Interview with Sinan TOPUK, Board Member of Bolt Bağlantı Elemanları A.Ş.

Bolt Civata was established in 1986 and moved to Bursa in 1993. In 1997, we invested in multi-station machinery. In 2008, we started to focus on special parts production by making multi-station machinery investments. 2 million 800 thousand dollars of our 3.5 million dollar investment in 2016 was made to machinery and equipment, 700 thousand dollars to buildings and other parts. Investments in quality-oriented laboratories and measuring instruments continued in 2019 and 2020. We included a simulation program in 2019. Laboratory and selection/sorting machine investments will be made in 2020.

One of the R&D centers of Türkiye
As Bolt Civata, we operate in a closed area of 6500 m2 and open area of 1500 m2 with a total of 200 employees. 17 percent of our employees are engineers and 25 percent are university graduates. We have a laboratory that has earned the title of R & D center in Turkey. We have ongoing R&D projects in Tübitak and Kosgeb. Our utility model studies continue. We manufacture completely special parts cold forming. 70 percent of production and exports are to the automotive industry, the majority of exports are to Germany, followed by England and France. We export to China and America, albeit little.

We aim for integrated plant
With 5-6 station machines, we can manufacture between 3 to 24 diameters and up to 200 mm length . All processes, from surface treatment to heat treatment, are carried out within our own structure. We have 2 heat treatment furnaces with 750 kg and 500 kg capacity. Currently, we outsource only coating services, but the coating plant is among our new investment plans. We have a 2nd operation department, where manufactured parta that cannot be completed in cold forging process.
We have production, threading, phosphating, wire drawing, heat treatment and packaging units. We are on our way to becoming a fully integrated facility. We are IATF 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 certified.

We have dreams and efforts not on the basis of industry or country, but on innovative products. We anticipate that the existing internal combustion engines, and therefore the technologies that produce smoke, will come back in the next 10-15 years and we want to develop some products accordingly. We can consider sectors such as automotive, defense industry, ship industry in this group. We also consider that there will be developments in our machinery industry along with our electrical automotive production.

I think our country will have a voice in this sector in the near future
Turkey has a strong manufacturing strength. I think we are making progress on our way to become the production base of Europe. Even though the sector is going a little weak compared to previous years, companies took the necessary precautions. Although there are some problems in some sectors due to the current conjuncture, our country has a dynamic structure and the slump will not last long. I think our industry is open in both custom and standard product manufacturing. We are a country with a population of 80 million people and in addition, there is a large geography around us within a distance of 4 hours of flight. I cannot see a situation that would cause us to be pessimistic. After 3-5 years, maybe we will be talking about other things. It is necessary to follow the changes and catch up with innovations. In the near future, I think that we will be a country that has a voice in Europe and in the world.
