Japan's fasteners imports in 2019. the third consecutive increase

According to the Ministry of Finance's trade statistics, the import quantity of Japan's  fasteners in 2019 was 266,222 tons (up 6.3% from the previous year), and the import amount was 104,875.15 million yen (0.5 % Increase). Unlike exports, which fell sharply from the previous year, both quantity and value increased for the third consecutive year.

Regarding exports and imports of Fasteners, imports increased especially in terms of quantity, while exports were sluggish last year. Steel bolts (HS:731815019), which account for the majority of imports, increased by 12.3% year-on-year, greatly increasing. “Other Fasteners (HS:731819000)” also increased by 30% year-on-year. Although the amount of money decreased in 8 items, which is equivalent to about half of 15 items in Fasteners, the items that decreased in both quantity and amount were “Fasteners (HS:731815090)”, “steel nuts (HS:731816090)”, “spring washers, lock washers (HS:731821000)”, and “cotters And cotter pins (HS:731824000)”.

While there was a month in which both the quantity and the amount of money fell significantly by double digits from 2018 in February of last year, they have been showing an increasing trend for the whole year, and especially from March to May, they have continued to increase for the third consecutive month. In September, both the quantity and the amount showed a large increase of 20% year-on-year, and then they were flat or slightly decreasing toward the end of the year, but generally they were increasing.

Imports of fasteners continued to increase until 2013 after the Lehman Shock, but for the next few years, both quantity and amount were on a downward trend.
